1. Watch the video to discover how to “transfer” the one string scale formula to different strings other than the low G string (the fattest string).
2. Practice playing an A Major scale on ONE STRING only (the low G string). Start at the 2nd fret (A note), then follow the one string scale formula while “playing and saying” each one of the NUMBERS in the scale, first ascending (going “up” the scale), then descending (going back “down” the scale). Practice this step until you are confident you are hitting all the right notes in this one string scale.
3. Next, “transfer” your “A Major scale” to the D string. First, find your “A” note on your D string. This “A” is now number 1.
4. Starting on number 1 (which is the “A” note), follow the one string scale formula – “playing and saying” the NUMBERS in the scale in ascending order, then back down in descending order. (It’s OKAY if you run out of frets – just “end” your scale at the “highest” fret you can reach, then “turn around” and play the scale in reverse (descending order)). Practice playing this one string “A Major scale” on the D string until you’re confident that you’re hitting the right notes in the scale AND can say each number out loud as you play it, both in ascending and descending order.
