Samuel Siegel, America’s Greatest Mandoline Virtuoso

A curated assortment of audio tracks and images of Samuel Siegel (born 1875, Des Moines, Iowa — died January 14, 1948, Los Angeles, California).

In his lifetime, Siegel was hailed as “America’s Greatest Mandoline Virtuoso” as well as “King of the Mandolin.” The photos and musical recordings reproduced on this page were produced in the early 1900s, ca. 1901 – 1915. Some of these recordings represent the earliest musical recording on Edison phonographs.
