  1. Watch the entire video to get an overview of the exercise
  2. Start with the open G string, then “play and say” the notes – including sharps – on each fret (going “up” the fretboard – towards your body) until you reach the “G note” on the 12th fret.
  3. Start on the “G note” on the 12th fret, then “play and say” the notes – including flats – on each fret (going “down” the fretboard – away from your body) until you reach the “open G Note”
  4. Repeat this exercise until you can play and say all the 12 notes going “up” and back “down” the fretboard reasonably comfortably. (Hint: you don’t have to do it all in one day!)

Move on to the next exercise AFTER you can successfully complete this exercise.
