1. Watch the entire video to get an overview of how to connect all the major scale patterns (1-7) together into your “slidable” master roadmap.

2. Next, practice putting your entire master roadmap together for the first time. Start in the key of Ab Major. This means you will designate the “Ab” note (1st fret on the low G (fattest) string) as note number “1”. Starting on note 1 (the “Ab” note), play your one string major scale along the E string while saying the NUMBERS of the scale out loud. (Not the fret numbers, and not the “letter” notes).

   Once you’re clear on where the NUMBERS of the one string scale fall on the G string, begin to play your major scale patterns. Start with major scale pattern 1. Play major scale pattern 1 in ascending order (going up in pitch), then back down in descending order (going down in pitch). Next, on the low G string (fattest string), move your FIRST FINGER to note “2” of the one string scale. From there, play major scale pattern 2 in ascending order. Then, when you reach the highest pitch, play major scale pattern 2 in reverse (in descending order). Next, move your FIRST FINGER along the Low E string to note “3” in the one string scale. Then play major scale pattern 3.

   Continue the process of playing each major scale pattern starting on its NUMBER along the one string scale. For example, major scale pattern 4 starts on note 4 (of the one string scale). Major scale pattern 5 starts on note 5 (of the one string scale). Continue this step until you have played ALL 7 major scale patterns starting on the correct NUMBER note along the one string scale on the low G string. That is, you should start with major scale pattern 1, then play each major scale pattern in order until you complete major scale pattern 7. Practice this step until it’s reasonably easy (not perfect!) to play all 7 major scale patterns in their correct locations along the one string scale.

3. Repeat step 2 for the following keys: A Major, Bb Major, B Major, and C major). If you find yourself running out of frets before you complete all 7 major scale patterns, just focus on step 2 – starting on Ab Major – and go as far as you can.
4. Only once you can “reasonably comfortably” play all 7 major scale patterns starting on the correct NUMBER along the one string scale, move on to the next lesson.
